Bellini's anxiety may be a bit sophisticated for the intended audience and, surprisingly, the scenes featuring Mirette and Bellini on the high wire lack drama and intensity. McCully's story has an exciting premise and starting point, but unfortunately ends up as a missed opportunity. After much practice the girl joins Bellini on the wire as he conquers his fear and demonstrates to all of Paris that he is still the best. ![]() Mirette implores the boarder to teach her his craft, not knowing that her instructor is the ``Great Bellini'' of high wire fame. When Mirette discovers that fear has kept him from performing for years, she knows she must repay him for the kindness he has shown her - and show him that sometimes a student can be the greatest teacher of all.- 'Young readers will want to pull on their own high-button boots and join Mirette as she dances between the rooftops'. Many traveling performers stay at Madame Gateaux's boarding house, but Mme.'s daughter Mirette is particularly taken with one guest-the quiet gentleman who can walk along the clothesline without falling off. ![]() ![]() Nothing I've read since Point of Retreat has even come close to measuring up. I could gush about your books all day! I have discovered one downside though. I like hot and steamy as much as anybody but it doesn't take the place of plot and character development. In the love story Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover, Kenna Rowan has little hope when she is released from jail after serving five years for involuntary manslaughter. Slammed and Point of Retreat proved something I've been thinking as I read book after book in the New Adult genre. So I started it, and Will totally had me at grilled cheese sandwiches :-) ![]() Well, I figured it had to be fairly good if it was her "favorite book ever". The NYTs bestseller, Maybe Someday, includes links to an original soundtrack by musician Griffin. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.įeaturing what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. ![]() ![]() Nimble fingers can manipulate pages that include lifting flaps to reveal surprises, pulling and pushing tabs that create animal actions, and touching textures that represent animal fur and feathers. And you totally can, because while the rest of the books sometimes involve characters from the first book, none of them really build on themes from the first book – and it’s the themes that make The Giver so fantastic. I guess a 3/5 overall, but I strongly recommend reading The Giver even if you decide to give the other books a miss. I’m not even sure that I can give this series a rating as a whole because of the wildly differing ratings between books. However, while I found The Giver as brilliant as ever, I felt that the other books really dropped off, especially Messenger, and, to some extent, Son. So I was pretty excited to dive into this quartet. It had been many years since I originally read The Giver (and was mind-blown by it), and until recently I didn’t even realize that there were other books that followed it. Not my usual kink I fall in love with, but Becca does an amazing job with it, making me want more from these 2 haha. OOOOOH and I was super happy and pleasantly surprised with the unexpected kink in this book. I loved this story of young love, heartache, intrigue, and SO MUCH ANGST!! I thought the plot was good, some of it was easy to spot but a couple twists were awesome and made for an exciting addition to this world Becca has beautifully created. So I love everything Becca Steele does and Trick Me Twice was no different! I think it did take me awhile to like the MMC in this one because he was such a jerk from the very beginning hahaha but he finally got the stick out of his butt and made it up to FMC. ![]() |
